Hypnotized by the topsheet and the base graphics on this pair. This pair is the very first carbon composite skis I’ve ever made. It features triaxial braided carbon fiber as the main reinforcement with some additional carbon types placed in areas to selectively stiffen or reinforce sections. The blue checkered top is also carbon fiber. There is some aramid veil and polyester veil in between the various layers to improve their bonding and resistance to shear forces. The ski itself is a 175 cm ski with dimensions of 127/90/116. There is a short tip rocker and a small tail flare with 5 mm of camber underfoot. The flex is right at medium. The weight of these is a scant 3lbs 8 oz each. There is only 1 gram difference in finished weight between them. I cant wait to ski these! Now I have to consider what binding to put in them….. AT or Alpine??? Decisions must be made. Kid 2 got a new set this year!! He picked the camo carbon-aramid hybrid fiber for his tops. The skis themselves came out great. 3lbs 2 oz before the base grind with a nice medium-minus flex which for a kid that only weighs 85lbs is right on target. Still…back at it with another custom set. These get a 9.92/10 for me. This pair is a 160 cm ski with dimensions of 128/99/109. They features a short rocker tip and a shorty tail rocker also with 4-5mm of camber underfoot. The flex is a nice medium. These should be at home in the groomers as well as ungroomed and mixed conditions. The graphics came out great and the eight before the base grind is 3lbs 9.9oz each. The second pair in a husband/wife combo. This pair is also made with maple sidewalls and will be used with leather tele boots for backwoods touring. This is a 150cm ski 108/74/94 with a short rocker tip, 6 mm of camber and a small tail flare plus a skin notch. We went with minimal plastics and low key matching graphics on a tiger maple top. They weigh only 2lbs 10 oz before the base grind and tune. Flex is medium to slightly more than medium. It’s been a couple weeks since I’ve had time to get in the shop to press a set. This pair is unique in several ways. This customer had some specific ideas…use as little plastic as possible, so no plastic sidewall and no plastic topsheet, make them a soft flex for use with leather tele boots and keep the graphics to a minimum. This is only the second pair I’ve ever built with wood sidewalls. The other was the very first pair I ever built, 14 years ago. This is also maybe the skinniest ski I’ve ever pressed aside from maybe a pair for my kids. This ski is a 170cm 110/66/96. It has a short tip rocker of 23cm, 5 mm of camber and a small tail flare plus a skin notch. The flex came out as medium-minus. The weigh in at 2lbs 13 oz each before the base grind!! They will be used for backwoods tele with leather boots.
